In this solo episode on Creatively Human, I reflect on my first year of motherhood, as my baby boy is turning one next week! I talk about how pregnancy, maternity leave and motherhood in general have impacted my business, and how we are handling things as a family.
I am getting well into my journey of balancing my business with a baby, so I wanted to give you another update now that Rowan is 8 months old. Edit: I never posted this at the time, he’s now 9.5 months old but the routine is pretty much the same, except he no longer naps in the afternoons (which is actually easier as we can do more with that time!)
As I get to grips with the idea of running my business while caring for my baby, I thought it might be helpful to record my journey with you! But I do have a massive disclaimer – if there’s one thing I’ve learnt since having a baby, it’s that all babies are different. So don’t compare your situation too much to mine. Some babies are more laid back, some require more care. Your day could look very different to mine! I really don’t want anyone to come away from this post feeling not good enough.
I called this post a letter from me to you, but to be completely honest I’m writing it mainly for me. As I write this my baby is 5 months old and I am easing back into work. I am making tough decisions, I’m starting to understand the “juggle” many parents speak of, and I feel like I’m moving into a new world.
I’m pleased to let you know that my baby boy, Rowan, was born on December 2nd 2017. I found out I was pregnant back in April 2017, and I started planning my maternity leave soon afterwards. Now that I’m 5 months into having a baby, I’m so grateful I took that time. I can now also look back and see what worked, and can share with you how I got through pregnancy (which I personally didn’t find easy). It’s a bit of a long one, but I hope it helps. Let’s dive in!
