Show Notes

Today I have the absolute pleasure of talking to my mastermind sister Genevieve Parker Hill: international bestselling author, speaker, coach and leading expert in the fields of minimalism, intentional living, nomad lifestyle, and creative growth. Genevieve has been featured in many outlets including Elle Canada and Complete Wellbeing Magazine. She’s published five books of her own and now helps people turn their solo podcast episodes into books. She is also totally on board with the philosophy of doing less to make more happen in your life and business!

We talked all things writing, and putting your work out there, with an emphasis on publishing your own book. Genevieve has so much wisdom to share about self-publishing, having done it herself so many times. We get into some of the feelings and mindset shifts around claiming the title of “writer”, the impostor syndrome that comes with that, the stigma around self-publishing, and the massive benefits of self-publishing for business owners. If you’re not necessarily thinking of (or believe you’re capable of) writing a book, this episode is still for you, as Genevieve has some unique ideas about how to actually “write” that book (which don’t all involve writing!)

Note: I had some mic issues on my end in this interview. Thankfully I wasn’t doing most of the talking, but I wanted to warn you that it may sound a little “off” when I speak.

“by not writing your book, you may be withholding some real gift you have to share with the world” – Genevieve Parker Hill

Some of the things we talked about:

  • The impostor syndrome that comes with calling yourself a writer & putting yourself out there
  • Parallels between marketing & writing in general
  • The mindset shifts needed for self-publishing
  • Why all business owners should consider self-publishing
  • How to create your book the “do less” way (without necessarily even writing a thing!)
